How to Find the “Julia Lynn” in the Homer Harbor

In order to find the “Julia Lynn” in the Homer Harbor, you must first find the harbor! From Anchorage, take the Seward Highway (US 1) and drive south toward Seward. About 90 miles south, there will be a turn off to the right (still (US 1) that will take you through Soldotna and on to Homer. Total mileage is around 225 miles. In summer, this should be no more than a four hour drive and in winter, it can take five hours. Once you crest the hill at Baycrest, you will enjoy the “Beautiful View” of Kachemak Bay. It is this view that has captured the heart of so many immigrants to this small town at the end of the road. To find the harbor, you will truly be going to the end of the road, so just stay on the main drag. The Homer Spit is about five miles long and the harbor is located almost to the end of it.
Once you have spotted the harbor, just past Freight Dock Road, keep straight on Homer Spit Road until you see buildings solid on both sides of the street. On your left, you will see Coal Point Trading Company. Just before their main building there is a paved parking lot which is adjacent to Ramp #3, which is the gateway to the “Julia Lynn”. The parking lot is directly across the street from Captain Pattie’s Fish House, one of our favorite Homer restaurants. You can park in this lot for free from Labor Day to mid-May, but in summer, it costs $5/day. There is ample free parking in the gravel within one block of ramp #3. Once you walk down ramp #3, take a left and walk another 30 feet, then take a right onto “G” float and walk about half way out to G-24 and see the “Julia Lynn” parked there (unless we are out fishing!). The boat cell phone # is 907-399-6001.
