What Do I Do With My Fish?
On the way back to Homer, after taking photos of your catch, we will fillet your fish and ice them. Once in the harbor, I call the processor, Coal Point Trading Company and they send a runner to the boat to haul your fish up the ramp. Located just up the ramp from the Julia Lynn, Coal Point will wash, cut, vacuum-pack, and freeze your catch assuring that just-caught freshness. This costs about $1.10/lb. Then you can discuss with them the options of shipping your catch via FedEx, or have them box the fish in an airline-approved box and take it with you on your flight home. If you fish early in your Alaska visit, you will need to arrange a place to keep the box frozen until you board your flight. Most hotels have a walk-in freezer for this. If you decide to ship FedEx, you simply arrange with Coal Point the date that would be convenient for you to have the fish arrive. Many people plan their fishing trip for the last few days of their visit and then just leave Coal Point and head for the airport in Anchorage. The foam-lined shipping boxes will keep the fish frozen for 24-48 hours.
